Lady Sybil Ramkin-Vimes by kayananas Lady Sybil Ramkin-Vimes by kayananas
Lady Sybil, from Terry Pratchett's discworld series. I think of a woman who is aristocratic, large, motherly, down-to-earth, well-endowed, tall, and fierce-when-needed. I dressed her in an early Edwardian blouse to emphasize the formidable bosom, since that era had enooooormous chests: [link]

Love her character, and don't much care for Kidby's version, even tho his other character illustrations are amazing .

Edwardian does indeed suit Lady Sybil, I agree. Especially in this more tailored sensible style; I don't see her so much in frothy, sheer, white tea gowns... not great for cleaning out dragon pens LOL

I had somehow pictured her with wider shoulders, a large woman with plenty of muscle under the roundness. I know big tall Scandinavian ladies who work with horses or other physical trades, they look somewhat soft with large breasts but have biceps big enough to make most male hollywood actors jealous, hard as rock under the skin fat. I picture Lady Sybil like those women: big all over, not just big bosom and hips. Large doesn't always mean soft :-) (see these olympic weightlifters... don't look impressive at first sight, right? www.teamusa.org/News/2012/Marc…)

I don't much like Kidby's version, either - too much of the shocked-looking Valkyrie for my liking - but I feel as if there's something missing from this portrayal. Maybe she doesn't look tall enough? I always picture Sybil as a rather imposing woman ... I suppose I think of her as more serious, too, but I reckon I could be missing something extra that you see in her :)

"Imposing" - perfect word to add to my list for how I think of her! Indeed, I don't think I captured how tall she's supposed to be, so I do agree with you there. Pratchett always evolves his characters through the books, and I think she started out Valkyrie-esque, and is now I think more of a homebody, sweet large woman. The other thing that I want to improve is bigger bosom!

I'm glad to have added another word to your descriptive set :)
And I do think it's the impression of height thing that I think is missing, that's all.
Maybe the bosom needs to be placed higher, and that would make it appear bigger!

However, I can't draw a stroke, so I'll leave the artistic side of things in your capable hands. I'm looking forard to more from your pen/pencil/brush/tablet :)

And the hair is so right for her, too. Great work. Hoping to see a Nanny Ogg one of these days!

I like it. Her clothes are nice and in spite of the shovel she looks aristocratic.

Yeah, lady Sybil is a specific "mix" of working with dragons and aristocracy. The picture shows it perfectly.

This is a LOVELY Sybil around the house, and she needs a companion piece - Sybil in her dragon-muck boots. :D

I can't tell if it's the eyes or the hand on her hip, but she definitely gives off the "Don't mess with this chicky" vibe.

and you do NOT mess with sybil XD i think sybil in dragon-mucking gear will be fun to draw, as long as kidby's version will stay out of my brain for a while ^^
